This would be early in the 20th Century, near 1900. The trolley car is of the brown colored vintage, and skirts are somewhat Edwardian. Electric trolley cars were built to quickly move the surging population through the urban environment. In 1903, the Manchester Street Station (not shown) was built to power the electric trolley car system. Lovecraft as a young high school student was not yet the antiquarian, and he embraced science with a passion. Then, of course, his grandfather died in 1904, and HPL began to slowly evolve into "Grandpa", the antiquarian.
