Providence Photos circa 1910

Serendipity!

Just after 1910, Lovecraft became fascinated with antiquarian doorways. These are circa 1910, and "near Brown University". He had to have passed some if not all of these doorways. It's like being on a walking tour next to him, by looking at these. More brief notes below.









Provenance unknown except seller's notes:
Lot of 7 antique photographs from the late 1910s of Providence Rhode Island. One marked on back Near Brown University & another says Arnold ST. All measure approx. 4" x 6". Some staining to right side as seen. Slight edge curl, but will flatten and are not fragile.

Colonial Providence

Whether Lovecraft saw this book or not, I don't know. However, he would have devoured it had he ever had it in his clutches! The illustrations are interesting, and these are where Lovecraft's flights of fancy would have taken him.
