Lovecraft In the Comics

This seemed appropriate to Cthulhu & especially some of the modern interpretations of the Mythos to include biblical allegories of Leviathan and Behemoth.* Strange Brew is a horror fan's delight since it is very "Far Side" and a little Gahan Wilson.

* Brian Keene's recent Conqueror Worms deals with this concept. In reality, Leviathan was a crocodile (probably an extinct Palestinian crocodile) and Behemoth was the hippopotamus (again, probably an extinct hippo. Palestine also had lions, and other anmals before the population growth eliminated most indigenous large species near the Jordan River millenia ago).

A Special View of Lovecraft's Writings

Clearly there are many interpretations of Lovecraft's stories. One that I often use is that HPL was a wannabe scientist. He is often referred to as a "horror writer". Of course, he was technically a "weird tale" writer.

I think that in many ways Dreams in the Witch House can be seen as an exposition of magic as a form of advanced Reimanian geometry (math).

At the Mountains of Madness could be seen as a dissertation on plate tectonics and its influence of evolution.

The Colour Out of Space could be seen as an alien terraforming project in a small sliver of New England.

In each case, people just got in the way. Whoops!

I think of the introductory scene of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where the Earth is wiped out to make room for a new Galactic Highway.
