Die, Monster, Die

...or, "Mr. Lovecraft meets Boris Karloff".

Things have a stange way of coming to me. I found an old paperback at a used book store. The Shadow over Innsmouth and Other Stories of Horror, ed. Margaret Ronan, and was a 1971 Scholastic edition (My copy is 2nd prinitng, Feb 1975). She gives the movie a high rating in her introduction to The Colour Out of Space.

Other stories in the book are: The Festival, Imprisoned with the Pharoahs, In the Walls of Eryx, The Transition of Juan Romero, The Outsider. The cover has a gaunt moon (crescent) over the left shoulder of a frog thing in a tuxedo. The hands are half flipper and half talons. Invisible, one can see the gothic village in the background, and a lone tombstone. The artist is not credited, and the signature is illegible on the cover art.

This 1965 American International Picture she brings to our attention was released under numerous names: Colour Out of Space (USA), Monster of Terror (UK), and The House at the End of the World. Apparently Karloff was so arthritic, he worked from a wheelchair, but was still a star presence. If you've seen the film, please place a comment below.
