It's not often you get the opportunity to add an original "H. P. Lovecraft" signature to your collection as he most often signed himself "HPL" or "E'ch-Pi-El", and signed amateur documents are especially rare! This six-page document dated April 25, 1936 was published in the June, 1936 issue of "The National Amateur" and signed not only by HPL but by the noted amateurs Jennie R. Plaiser, Vincent B. Haggerty.

Despite the professional rise in sales and the fame of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, he could never fully sever his ties to amateur journalism and less than a year later Lovecraft would be dead from cancer.

Included along with the six-page signed typed documentation is a copy of "The National Amateur" in which it was published.

A fascinating grouping of Lovecraftiana!

1923: A Lovecraft Invitation

The seller states: An Announcement card from H. P. Lovecraft, President - July, 1923 // Howard Phillips Lovecraft was only a scant few months away from having his work appear in "Weird Tales" magazine, and presiding over the National Amateur Press Association had to be the furthest-most task on his mind. However with William Dowdell's being "impeached" and voted out of office (HPL said later for "running off with a chorus girl") he was forced to once again assume the mantle of "President", if only for a few months. The Forth-Eighth Annual Convention of the National Amateur Press Association took place in Cleveland, Ohio July 2-4, 1923. HPL did not attend but he did hold office long enough to have his name printed on the invitation card.

The National Amateur Convention in Boston, July, 1921 is the main focus of this excellent issue with five pages of commentary about Howard Phillips Lovecraft -"The time will never be when I will the less enjoy the splendidness of Howard Lovecraft. He is a big man in every way...he has proven himself to be the most human of documents...a sense of humor that is astounding, because one would doubt he possessed the gift...a man with a deep sense of honor...he is a modest man ..." - George Julian Houtain.

Many other humorous notes regarding Lovecraft and his shenannigans during the convention. There are also mentions of Sonia Green and her involvement with Lovecraft during many occasions. Photographs of Lovecraft, Sonia Greene, and James Morton, Jr., are present as well as photos of many of amateur journalisms most important members, George Houtain, William Dowdell, Dorothy MacLaughlin and others.

Nice copy of this slick-papered 'zine with string-tie still in place.
A scarce piece of Lovecraft memorabilia, especially in this condition!

I (epegana) offer a rare piece of Lovecraft ephemera - an original card of invitation to attend the forty-eighth convention of the Natational Amateur Press Association. With Lovecraft's interest in his own writing taking more and more of his time, HPL gradually began withdrawing from his amateur activities, but an unusual event pulled him back in again and he was persuaded to take over as interim president...former president William Dowdell had deserted his post to run off with a show-girl!
