There is no indication that Lovecraft believed a scrap of the supernatural. He spent much of his life refuting it. Still, a great cover illustration.

I thought the same thing upon reading this. It almost reminds me of the odd introduction from one of the Simon Necronomicon versions that tried connecting HPL with Aleister Crowley, Sumerian beliefs, and other far out supernatural things. The cover is beautiful though. I think it's what originally drove me into buying it, prior to reading the article inside.
