In George Kirk's letter * of 18 October 1926 we read, "HPL wrote lately. Is doing work for Houdini. Sent me the MS of a story about my 14th St. house."
Those brief words are set in context by S T Joshi's footnotes. He states that the "work" was the Cancer of Supersitition (with CM Eddy) manuscript that was preempted by Houdini's death. Bess did not want to continue the work.
* ed. Mira Kirk Hart & S T Joshhi, Lovecraft's New York Circle: The Kalem Club, 1924-1927. p.110. The story (MS) was Cool Air which was written about February 1926.
